John F. Kennedy told the Congress that the new civil rights laws he wanted involve every American’s right to vote, to go to school, to get a job, and to be served in a public place without racial remarks or judging them of their skin color. The Civil Rights Act banned racial descrimination in
employment, voter registration, and public places. Kennedy also wanted all people to have equal access to hotels, restaurants, and other public places.
